CASCADE (Fate)
CASCADE is a model for simulating pesticide concentrations is systems of ditches at a scale of the order of 10 km2. Simulation periods are typically a few years. Its aim is to analyse the relationship between pesticide concentrations in water courses adjacent to agricultural fields and such concentrations in larger water courses. It is based on detailed maps of land use and of surface water systems. Its final version will consist of modules for simulating (i) water flow and water heigth in the ditches using daily meteorological input, (ii) spray drift deposition using hourly averages of wind speed and direction, (iii) leaching of pesticides via drains into the ditches, (iv) pesticide behaviour in the ditches, (v) ecotoxicological effects on aquatic organisms and their recovery.
